February 6
On the day of 6 February
The commemoration of Saint Paul Miki and his companions, martyrs, at Nagasaki in Japan. Eight priests and religious of the Society of Jesus and the Order of Friars Minor, some sent from Europe and others native to Japan, as well as seventeen laymen, all of whom were seized as persecution against Christians worsened, endured bitter mockery and were condemned to death. All, even the boys, were crucified together, rejoicing that it had been granted to them to die in the same way as Christ.
